Hello,
I am on the East Coast and have two older lilac bushes that are not very close to each other they have been blooming every year, for some reason after they bloomed this year they recently are parts of the bushes/ leaves that are turning brown. Can anyone assist me with this?

Hi Elsma!
Lilacs do die back depending on how old the branch is! Older ones partially die back and need to be pruned back to live wood! If these bushes are very old then pruning the branch down to soil level will help rejuvenate the bush. It will respond by sending up new growth from the root system. Over time you should have a few stems coming up from the base each year....encourage the healthiest of these new stems....as they mature you can remove other old stems that have lost their vigor and start dying.

Thank you so very much!
