Looks like a sunflower! Definitely in the sunflower family...which variety is anyone's guess....there are so many of them..
Let the flower heads mature, and and post a photo when the seeds are ripe...should turn black!

Hi Woodie!
Have't had any smoke and hazy conditions for several days now...winds are finally coming in out of the SW which prevents the smoke from heading out of the NE... Thank God!

Crabgrass...
Any weed killer will kill it...or you can use a blowtorch...you will need to keep on top of this aggressive weed ...make sure you don't let it go to seed or the problem will grow.....

Wait until it blooms and post another photo...the flowers should tell me what it is...or narrow it down more.

Since you want something safe that doesn't effect other plants with run off you could use a blowtorch to kill your weeds....should burn off the weed seeds too so won't need to use the blowtorch very often...

We survived a week of smoke and haze and a few days of of very bad air quality....spent these really bad days inside with windows and door closed...

Coreopsis tend to be short lived if the the soil is too wet for too long....they prefer well drained soils.
