KNOW THE SYMPTOMS.....PLEASE READ!

Thank goodness there's a name for this disorder.
Somehow I feel better even though I have it!!

Recently, I was diagnosed with A.A.A.D.D. -
Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.

This is how it manifests:

I decide to water my garden.
As I turn on the hose in the driveway,
I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.

As I start toward the garage,
I notice mail on the porch table that
I brought up from the mail box earlier.

I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

I lay my car keys on the table,
put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table,
and notice that the can is full.

So, I decide to put the bills back
on the table and take out the garbage first.

But then I think,
since I'm going to be near the mailbox
when I take out the garbage anyway,
I may as well pay the bills first.

I take my check book off the table,
and see that there is only one check left.

My extra checks are in my desk in the study,
so I go inside the house to my desk where
I find the can of Pepsi I'd been drinking.

I'm going to look for my checks,
but first I need to push the Pepsi aside
so that I don't accidentally knock it over.

The Pepsi is getting warm,
and I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the Pepsi,
a vase of flowers on the counter
catches my eye--they need water.

I put the Pepsi on the counter and
discover my reading glasses that
I've been searching for all morning.

I decide I better put them back on my desk,
but first I'm going to water the flowers.

I set the glasses back down on the counter,
fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote.
Someone left it on the kitchen table.

I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV,
I'll be looking for the remote,
but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table,
so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs,
but first I'll water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers,
but quite a bit of it spills on the floor.

So, I set the remote back on the table,
get some towels and wipe up the spill.

Then, I head down the hall trying to
remember what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day:

the car isn't washed
the bills aren't paid
there is a warm can of Pepsi sitting on the counter
the flowers don't have enough water,
there is still only 1 check in my check book,
I can't find the remote, (God forbid!)
I can't find my glasses,
and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.
Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today,
I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day,
and I'm really tired.

I realize this is a serious problem,
and I'll try to get some help for it,
but first I'll check my e-mail....

Do me a favor.
Forward this message to everyone you know,
because I don't remember who I've sent it to.

Don't laugh -- if this isn't you yet, your day is coming !

That reminds me so much of a story written by Patrick McManus called "Sequences". It's all about starting to do something and getting sidetracked to the point the original goal is lost in the mist of time.

That is unbelievable!
I cant even believe what I just read...
I have been doing that for YEARS! I know how to control it.(sure I do!*LOL)
write a list of what has to be done, then check it off once completed, it may take for up to a year but it will get done you see, ...the list will be as much as 150 tasks.
True story I can even show you the lists!
Seems like everything needs to be done, just this morning I was thinking (scary thought) I have to get seed /swap stuff together, send the 5 emails waiting to be sent need to re read before I send.Gather my stuff for the Ordinance meetings
Gather the pics for the cd to send my brother, answer a few posts locate pics (in a folder) not sit for more then 20 minutes.(doctors order*lol)
Call citi to tell them off*LOL
look up Lithograph (we found one in the garbage and trying to make money off it!)
water dying indoor plants! clean the bathroom the darn cat drop a plant, bring a few more plants inside some need to be repotted, repot the hot peppers. cut down any perennials that are not going to feed the birds come winter.
check all roses for bores, blow the darn leaves out of the beds and driveway again.Shred the bags and boxes of junk mailso I can bring plants in adn reach to water them.. find a place for ornaments I brought out side that are laying on my desk.
Help daughter clean her room so I can walk in there to get my sowing seed shelves back up there. pull everything out of the garage to get that large table out and get to my pots for seed sowing..cover pond make path to get there.I can talk until New Years..
And you know what I may get one or ten done and feel like a waste of my day but..I was busy all day.The list helps until you loose that darn book and start reading all the ones you can find then walk around the garden to log updated info in the log books you did find. Then you notice a plant needs pruning or to be moved then you write a list of to move plants then you see ….
I understand completely!

I am happy to know I am not alone!

Yeah well do you know what the kick in the pants is for me???

I make a list...but forget where I put it!!!!

I make a list for the market...and leave it at home (usually on the arm of my

chair)

I also used to be really bad about gettting distracted and put the shampoo in the refridgerator..and the mayo in the bathroom cupboard!!!

I kept losing my keys so much when I first moved in with BF....

They are now on a "lanyard" and hang on the knob of the deadbolt on the front door!! and I have a big chunk of keys along with all those little store saver cards with the bar code..
I drop my keys in the library and everyone hears!!!

but now I have A.A.A.D.D. to blame for it!!! :p
