I took these photos of my mom's holly bush a few days ago. It's obviously got an issue. I'm also wondering if there's something I need to do to give it a growth boost. It hasn't really grown much in the past few years. It's pretty pathetic actually. I'm not sure if it's location or soil PH or what. As usual, input is appreciated. Thanks.

Holly bushes need a slightly acidic base soil, and fertilizer designed for acid loving plants!
Ratio 10-5-5 would be ideal--follow the directions on the container. Uusally one application is needed, but if new leaves to look yellow you can apply another dose a few weeks later. Make sure it is a water soluable type and saturate the soil.
You will also need to mulch the soil to help retain soil moisture. Pine bark or shredded cedar bark is ideal. As the bark breaks down it adds nutrients to the soil.

Should I be concerned about the brown edges and yellowing of the leaves? I haven't done anything with PH yet. The bush hasn't had any sort of treatment this year. I would mention that we've had freezing temperatures overnight lately (Michigan) but I'm pretty sure holly bushes are rather resilient to that.

The damaged leaves will fall off on their own once the new leaves emerge in a couple of weeks!
They are very frost resistant!
