Greeting fellow gardening enthusiast!
My first few posts on this forum were for help in determining how I could fix my soil. It’s ” off the charts” high for alkaline, and the water drainage test was a complete failure: dig a hole 12x12, fill with water, after draining, refill and note rate water drains from the hole and my hole still had water in it the next day, only down a few inches. Lots of clay.
UPDATE: I decided that it wasn’t worth the effort to try planting a big garden, I was in Home Depot, and bought some snap peas, and bush beans for $3.00 almost as an experiment to see what would happen…
The snap peas l learned from. Plant earlier, make sure you have a trellis for each row. I got a handful so far, but taste good.
The bush beans have been a resounding success! (At least from my perspective). I planted 3 rows about 5 ft long, Thinned as directed, as every seed came up, and now they are producing big time! Very exciting for me. The soil I thought was dead, is not.
Questions: Does anyone know of a soil sample place I could send a sample too? My searches have not resulted in much…
What can I prepare for now to improve my soil in the fall and be ready for a bigger garden next year?
Im mostly interested in producing crops for nutrition and ease of storage, whether canning or freezing.
Thanks in advance!

peas we were better off wtih buying a $1.00 bag, had a good number but not fulfilling
beans are much better, if asked more fulfilling and a faster harvest all around.
