Ground cover, part of plant or possible weeds?

Hello all,

I planted some ground cover this year in the back. The info tag says sedum makinoi ogon stonecrop. I liked the firm hardiness of this plant so I planted a handful of groupings in an area. I am posting here because there are what looks like weeds growing out of each group. In all locations, it is the same thing. At first I thought it may just be this plant blooming so it can spread but then I saw the same kind of thing growing in the front of the house :)

SO I thought the best thing to do is just take some photos and ask people that will know. You will see the tall weed like stuff growing out of it. If it is normal and part of the plant, then cool, I will let it continue doing its thing, otherwise I will pull it up.

Thank you for your time.

Hi Trip,
Welcome to gardenforums.com
While I am not aquainted with your ground cover, I do know the growth you have is a weed. It may be rather diffacult to remove from the cent of your plants but it needs to be gotten by the roots.

Good luck and please come back and share more of your gadens and your needs with us. We will be ahppy to help.

Sedum Makinoi Ogon Stonecrop.... common name 'Golden Japanese Stonecrop'
They look heathy so they are not your problem.
All the darker green plants are weeds and you will need to remove them!
Root around under the sedum to get the weeds pulled, roots and all.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I now have a project ahead me pulling these weeds up. I have let them grow in the chance this was part of the ground covers method of spreading :) I am very new to all of this. I will post some pics soon of what I have going on. Thank you all for the warm welcome.

You're welcome!

Use a digging fork to loosen the soil then hold the sedum in place while you gently shake the weed loose. Press the sedum back down and water it. That weed looks like an oxalis. It might have tasty sour leaves.
