The scientifically name of Tatsoi is Brassica rapa and is indigenous to Japan where it has been cultivated since 500 A.D. The Tatsoi plant is an Asian green that belongs to the cabbage family of Brassicas. The Tatsoi plant is a low growing annual with small, spoon-shaped leaves, the plant is also called spoon mustard, spinach mustard, or rosette bok choy, of which it is a close relative of. Tatsoi have a mild mustard-like flavor. Actually the Tatsoi plant looks similar to spinach, the plant stems and veins are white and sweet.
