Decades ago I left Texas, don't miss the bugs and the humidity at all. But, you could grow things there easier than here in AZ. I miss blackberries, and dew berries, and the smell of carolina jasmine...
We may be building a new home in a few years, I have a condition that will eventually cause me to need wheelchair accessible housing and I plan to have a sidewalk completely surrounding the house, and I will garden in raised beds right next to the sidewalk. Nothing like a fresh vine ripened tomato to make a sandwich taste special.
Anybody here from Texas?

Hi azweeder,
We have at least 2 here from Texas that I know of. But don't let that stop you from joining in. I believe there may be some pictures of raised beds my husband has been building for a few of our older neighbors. There are some good ideas there for you to look at.
I sure hope the Dr.'s are wrong about your time line.
Wishing you luck with your condition.

I often refer to myself as a "CIO". That stands for "California Improved Okie". I was born in Oklahoma almost on the Texas/Oklahoma border. Dad moved us to Texas when I was two years old when he went to work in the oil fields of south Texas. The he moved the family again when I was 14 years old. That was in 1948. My younger sister was born in Texas and she reminds me often that I am not a Texan. But Texas was a big part of my formative years in many ways and I still have that Texas sound when I speak.

Hi azweeder. I'm from Texas now. I was born and raised in Kansas. I like it here but I've only been here for 4 years. We have had drought most of that time so I've never had to deal with the humidity yet. I don't miss the snow or the sever weather of summer either. Although it does get hot down here but I just try not to spend much time out in it.

Hi azweeder

Welcome to the forum. I'm from Maine so lots of snow and cold to deal with this winter.
Hope to see you around the forum.

Hi there and welcome to our family.
Where do you live in AZ. I know AZ has places that are hot-hot-hot and places that get snow.

Thanks for the responses....
my time line of 20 years is about what I expected anyway, so I am not upset by that part. As long as I am able to do something, I will be fine.
We live on the NW side of the Phoenix metropolitan area, in Peoria, and yes it does get hot here. But as long as the AZ works in the house and car, it isn't too bad. Being retired, we just stay in. My "farming" won't be done in the summers, fall thru spring will have to do. We actually got some cold snaps that killed vegetation this year. At the moment, I am clearing out some cacti and bushes that mess up the yard, and will be looking into food producing plants to replace them. Will check in again soon...
