Helping a friend with her garden. The garden is in northern NH zone 4b.
She has some knock out roses that are in the open, not in a sheltered area. She would like to keep them even though they may not be hardy. I do not know much about roses. Any suggest how to try to over winter them? She was wondering about digging them up , over winter in pot in sheltered area. Or put burlap around bushes. Thanks

Welcome to our forum Lanieb!
It is best to mound soil up over the graft first. Then cut the canes to around 24 inches, then tie the canes together and wrap them in burlap! Since they are in an exposed area, winds will be an issue so using stakes should be also considered.
Some gardeners use large tomato cages and fill the cages with dried leaves then wrap te cage with burlap!
In any case the graft needs to be protected so mounding soil is essential!
