HI ALL
We purchased a huge estate here in ontario up in the country. English tudor

Lots of gardens around it. Well kept. The only concern is one side i need some hedge privacy and fast growing ones.

I found 2 places that have many 6-7ft thuja type cedars. Western Red cedar and eastern White Cedar. Red grows fast and not sure the rate of the white one.I researched online and there wasn't a clear cut difference between the 2.

just curious to see if anyone has had experience with hedge growing etc and their thoughts.
I'd prob need 100-130 individual plants. The lot is 2 acres and almost 150 feet on one side long. I'm getting them a reasonable rate.

Thanks

Hey Luke welcome to our forum!
I used Emerald Green Cedars for hedges and they do grow at a moderately fast rate and form a thick hedge in a few short years!

Is evergreen a requirement?

I have a privit hedge. I have no clue how old it is but at this point it is both a thick privacy hedge and will stop a person from being able to pass through it. I trim it to shape eAch year to keep it presentable using electric trimmers. Last year I lopped it off right down to the ground and now it is three feet tall and you can't see through it.

Other less formal otions I can think of are spirea, fracynthia, and lilac.

Bamboo can work really well but can become incredably invasive. One of my neighbors when I lived in northern Michigan had some and paid me to keep it in check. It was a good two or three hour a month job before I could get a part time job.
