I have two lilac bushes....one is a sensation (duo coloured flowers) and hte other - well, it was white when we moved here, but now it is white and purple flowers! I am concerned as they seem to be scrawny this year and not as many flowers as they have had in the past. I am wondering what I should be doing to these shrubs to make them fuller and more flowers? I had heard to put lime around them - but can't remember if it was spring or fall??? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
here is a great link... check out the care section

After your lilac bush has finished blooming, spread some lime and well-rotted manure around the base. Trim the bush to shape it, and remove suckers at the same time.
Thank you Kya - that is a great link and lots of basic information. Will give it a try and hopefully next year, will see an improvement in the shrubs/flowers
