OK...
Not sure bored was the correct word..

This is my situation this wonderful new years day of 2009...Same ever winter...here in dark, COLD MI.! It think it is called cabin fever...
It may last until April with slight breaking of the fever here and there.Between now and then.

Actually I have so many things I can do I don't feel like doing any or do feel like doing all but don't know which to do. *LOL I have to decide what I am going to do then I should be busy for hours but until I decide I am beside myself and if I decide then I am prevented from carrying out my plan of "to do" I may just put it back on the list.Just to know I have something to do.

So I challenged myself to remember every rose name, when planted and where.
Then drew a birds eye view of my back yard, (only not to scale).Got tired of sitting there so I came back to the computer to see what was happening.Searched though some pics and here I am.
Hi:)

Was I bored or trapped indoors away from my love of the garden!*LOL

Kale:)

I've heard that old saying too Dale..gonna be a lot of people watching ball games all year..a lot of bored people..some depressed, a few that are working today. Going by this, the world is gonna be a mess this year!!
I've tried to keep myself quite occupied and was sure to have the traditional foods for money and success (I thinks that why we have the traditional foods.) Do you think we might be a tad superstitious? LOL

I don't think I am superstitous although I don't sweep and wash clothes on New Years day either. I like to think of all the quirks like eating hog jowl, greens and blackeyed peas, and others, Southern tradition.

Oh, gosh.. I did wash a load of clothes today!!! I didn't know about that one.:eek:
It's just fun to try and keep the traditions going. I learned to cook Hoppin John from my Mom and I like it. Hubby likes the fried jowls...especially with stewed tomatoes and we both like collards.

Oh.. and I forgot..we had barbeque cause the SIL and daughter decided that they would barbeque a hog last night. Usually the whole hog barbeque is a Christmas tradition.

I did laundry today too and was going to do some more tonight. Have never heard that or that there is traditional food either. Must be a southern thing.

There are a lot of good old Southern traditions that we participate in.

Yep Laurie, it's a southern thing. Like whole hog barbeque, pork pull or pig pickin..here's a pic.

I thought I might watch one of the football games today, but I forgot all about it. It has rained pretty much all day today too and I had no desire to be out in that although I was for a little while. I did some housekeeping on the computer and backed up everything (again).

I have not heard of that tradition that says what you do on new year's you will do all year but I think it's a good one. It inspires a person to put forth some effort to do something they want to do all year. Kind of a best foot forward thinking put into action :) Sometimes we get so bogged down that we feel like there's nothing that can make it better. With this thought a person only has to think about one day which could be very liberating.

Hey Shiney Deb...I don't knwo if that is true or not but I did laundry...all of it...and put it away.....stay on top of chores would be a grand thing for me...heck make me feel good anyway.....then yesterday after noon I watered plants in the sun room ...so I gardened and i really want to do that all year...then i cleaned the wood shop or at least started... I had such a mess out there....I love wood work...
We had barbque pork, black eyed peas, fried potatoes, cornbread, tea...
Randy I don't do football but I sure love to watch and play basketball...

Dora I think that is why previous generations of families did that. Wanting to start the new year off right with postive actions. I am a 9 year ovarian cancer survivor. Learned to take one day at a time. Can't dwell on the past and all can do is look forward. Hope you have a great 2009 year.

Peggy, I'm not a football fan either and I don't know anything about the teams. I do get a little excited about the two Oregon teams though when they play each other. They call it the Civil War. There is an old fellow at the nursing home that I visit though that asks me how the Ducks are doing and I try and have some info for him when I go in on Tuesdays. I was thumbing through channels today though and I saw the Cotton Bowl was on today. I didn't watch it though. I put on a movie called "The Pacifier" and watched it as long as I was on the treadmill. My wife watched the rest of it though. My wife is a Portland "Trailblazers" fan.
