    Like I said I'm a sucker for color and uniqueness. Since most things now are hybrids I thought heirlooms would be the best way to go. I didn't pick heirloom corn though, DH was specific about the type of corn he wanted..lol.

    We planted a small patch of corn and added some pumpkin and acorn squash seeds in. They did great at first until we had a drought and I forgot to water :( oops...lol. We got one small pumpkin and one very small acorn squash. Our corn did not do that good and it got maggots or some type of worm...

    Thanks everyone. We live near a race track and they are always throwing away (illegally) tires so they are really easy to pick up.

    I'm in ohio and I was thinking of using them because our soil is mostly clay so I figured instead of tilling everything Up and can dig up the turf and toss it in the composter then put the tire down and fill in around with good soil for the plants.

    So I'm trying to find a use for used tires. I know you can use them as planters for flowers but what about veggies and fruits? Are there chemicals that can leach into the plant or any problems I should be concerned about?

    I'm new here and I have a question. I live in zone 5 and was wondering if it was to late to plant cherry tomatoes? My kid has eaten all of them and I need more! The seed pack says 70 days which would be the end of september. Any info would be great.
