    recycled lard/grease

Scrapple...if they roll it out flat and slice it, does that make it bologna? If no one told me what it was and it looked remotely appealing, I'm sure I would give it a try. If you told me ahead of time what went in there, I'd probably pass. As I write this I'm thinking about the ingredients we...

    Topsy Turvy

can't quite develop the picture that's in my head. but, great inventions are the result of trial and error when trying to "fix" or get a workaround for a problem. what's to lose but a tomato?

    Topsy Turvy

I've never used a Topsy Turvy, probably because quite a few years ago we tried the upside down 5-gal bucket with very little success. Proper watering is the issue and no matter how hard I worked at it the plants were spindly and the tomatoes small, not to mention few and far between.

Spring is here and what are you planting?

I've been a slacker thus far. I was just looking out of the dining room window last night at my barren vegetable garden and trying to convince myself that just because the new Farmer's Market is slated to open in June and is only 10 minutes from the house, it is not an excuse. Where, oh where...

Honey, we're having chicken CAN pie for dinner. Bet that will get the taste buds diving for cover! Cowardice prevails. I will NOT be giving this a try!!

Wanted info about planting by the moon

When we first started gardening we planted by the almanac, but got lazy over time and went with the "plant on Good Friday" rule. But, that became a problem because there were always late frosts and it was too difficult to try to cover such a large garden. Now we just plant when the soil temps...

    Recipe recipes from Germany

Think so, Randy...wow, not sure I could bypass black-eyed peas, ham, and collards for new year's even though none of the three ever made me any richer (or poorer). Now, if I could just wing me a trip over to Germany (or Italy where my daughter is now) I'd give up tradition for the trip and a...

    Recipe recipes from Germany

Will have to try rindsroulade and hopefully some more German recipes will get posted here. I loved the food when we were over visiting our daughter and her family in 2006. I've tried a few recipes at home, most memorable my disastrous attempt at making homemade spaetzle! Simple enough to make...

Recipe Freezer Jam: A Baby Step To Canning

That was a great article, Blue. I picked up a book on preserving jams and jellies while waiting in line six hours for Pat Conroy to sign my book this past weekend...should have looked here first. I really like the sound of the Spiced Autumn Preserves and will have to give that a try next month...
