    Are There Gotta Have Annuals?

Marigolds! Geraniums and impatients as well, didn't know that about the salvia (pest deterent). I love having the long lasting "work horse" annuals in the garden it's nice to have those sudden splashes of color as I go along.

    Vegetables

But we appreiciate our warm weather more on the great Lakes! Our big pond is what makes things like "Lake effect snow" and "Cooler by the lake" have meaning, pupose. Lake side communities have and extra 2 weeks on each side of the gardening season. And don't forget the Polar Bear Club! Nothing...

    Which perennials and why

    Which perennials and why

I have the usuals, coneflower, clematis, peonies, bleeding hearts, hollyhock, columbine, mums, delphiniums, pinks, daylillies, hardy hibiscus. I like the perennials because they have different bloom times, different coloration, and I can devote more time to the roses, and the containers (80-90ish). It...

    lawns, a love hate relationship

I finally got around to working in the south yard during the summer. I re-did the pathetic little garden area that was there when we moved in 8 years ago. I enlarged that and replanted with perennials and self sowing annuals. I made the "twice as big as it started" vegetable/herb gardens and...
