    Well..you certainly have a dilemma and I can relate to trying to keep the price down. Sooo, my thoughts are still on those cross ties... wonder if there's a sealer that could be used on them to keep the chemicals contained? And then maybe keeping an eye out for old buildings being torn down...

    Kallie are you planting outside already? It has been some warm days but still have cool nights so the soil may not be warm enough yet. I'm planting in pots in sunny windows or wrapping pots in clear plastic right now. I'll transfer them where i want them later.

    Thanks for the support friends. Randy, we'll plant the usual, around 300 plants. That gives me plenty for canning and sharing with family and friends. We'll sell some some of the plants once they're mature enough to move. We're going to try to grow a few vegetables year round for our own use...

    Don't give up so easy..have you thought about used railroad cross ties for a retaining wall? Take a look at this link. http://www.railroadcrosstie.com/ I'm not suggesting that you order from them but maybe you can find a place in your area to purchase at a reasonable price.

    I bought potting soil and 2 dahlia bulbs this morning. One is a bicolor (yellow/white) the other is a bright pink. This makes 4 I've purchased in the last week. In the past months, I've bought loads of vegetable seed, getting ready to plant the veggie garden.

    For color, Geraniums and Begonias make for good pot plants and bloom late into the fall. There's loads of annuals but those are my 2 favorites.

    Hi and welcome oIHo. You have your work cut out for you but it will reward you in time. To my knowledge, pressure treated timbers should last at least 10 years or more with no maintanience needed. It lasts even when used in salt water so I would think you'll have a lot of years to be trouble...

    Here's an idea for an aquarium that's no longer used. Lined the inside with a clear trash bag. I put hay in the bottom to bring the plants closer to the light. Added potting soild and tomato seeds and wa-la, indoor greenhouse!

    In the first pic on the opposite side of the street..looks like a couple of Cedar trees growing there. I like Holly bushes for privacy also. I have 3 that are about 6 ft and cover 4 foot across space. It takes a while to grow them but they're evergreen as the Cedars and offer pretty red berries...
