Smelly, Good point about the own root roses. I know Heirloom roses does sell own root roses. I'm sure there are others but they are the only ones I know of. DD, High Sheriff is lovely. I am partial to orange roses as well. Not really into the red and pink. Don't get me wrong I like them I...

    Roses

I've looked on the map and I don't think we have jap beetles here in Granger. We do have deer though. At least my yard is not along the slough where they like to travel. Dora/Garden Goddess

    Roses

Really? I have read that it is hardy to zone 5. Do you have a different experience? I ask because I've just moved to zone 5 and I was thinking I could plant a Pat Austin. I know I would have to plant my roses deeper and I have seen things called rose cones in the nurseries around here so I am...

    The Bluegrass Bunch

Oh my gawd what awesome fun is that!! Woohoo...I'd be down it in a minute! I remember the first time I went to the mountains (Big Bear in California) and I slide down the hillside. The dads were stationed at the bottom of the hill so we wouldn't go out onto the lake (not quite frozen enough)...

    Welcome Randy

I'm a card carrying Beaver so I agree with you. What station did that song? I'd be interested. My son-in-law is a Duck fan. Every time the Beavers beat the Duck I have to call them to gloat lol! If you've seen the movies Bandits there is a scene in there where Billy Bob Thorton's character...

    Welcome Randy

Ain't that the way it goes? I swear I talk to my daughter more now that I've moved than when I lived in Oregon. The phone calls have dropped off now that she got a job at Target though. Son Bill likes to chat on the phone too but then he was always a chatty one lol! I'll be out that way in...

    Things to do!

Does plowing snow count? ok yes, I'm being a smart alec lol! I'm in a zone that is new to me so I'm still learning what I can do and not do. I think I planted my bulbs way too early this year (planted them the end of August lol) So far I haven't seen any pop up so there is still hope. I know my...

    Flower Gardens and Lawns.

ROFL you so funny Debe! I had no moss in my lawn this past summer. None! I could hardly believe it. No moss on the roofs, no moss on the driveways...it is a moss-free wonderland ;) I have been thinking about all of your suggestions for my ditches. I think it will be a bit of a process because...

    What Tool?

Well yes there is that lol! I don't think I'd want to tackle our acre without it but that is new to me so maybe that's why I didn't list it...I've gardened too many years without it lol! Dora/Garden Goddess

    What Tool?

Yep, I'm a hands-on gardener as well. I was warned about chiggers in the soil here in Iowa though so I've started wearing gloves. Not my favorite but it beats the alternative. Shovel, hard rake, pruner are my basic tools. Dora/Garden Goddess
