Beautiful work everyone. My crafty activity has been pretty limited the past few years due to school but I did manage to make a smoking jacket for my oldest. He doesn't smoke but for some reason he got it in his head that it would be cool.

For annuals I agree that sunflowers are a must :-) I want to try lantana this year. I saw it in some containers last year and thought it was so pretty. I love martha washington geraniums. I'm actually trying to winter one over inside this year. I also love nicotiana.
Oh yes, I will be try...

Oh yes! Jessie is our pound puppy. We actually got her from the humane society down where you are Mudpie :-) In Oregon she would stand guard and "protect" me from the squirrels. Here in Iowa she protects me from the remote control cars lol! True story: We were sitting on our front porch and all...

It's all going to be new to me this year as I'm in a new zone lol! I want to include some "tried and true" that I saw growing in other gardens here but I want to try some other stuff as well. Mostly I saw day lillys, coneflower and rudbeckia. I think my biggest concern is finding plants that can...

Hi DeeDee,
I grew brugs in Oregon. Had to bring them in for the winter but they came back quite nicely :-)

Ron,
I've thought of evergreens. In my last garden there was a row of arbor vitae along the back. It was so overgrown and just not very attractive. I'm thinking of a more diverse screening effect rather than a total barrier. Experience tells me that as I get out and work in my yard the garden...

Beans beans the musical....
My dad would get the frozen ones. I don't think he put ham in them though. My best friend's husband is from southeast Texas and he will eat them right out of the can (glark!) Dad would make green beans with bacon and potatoes and that was good. When we had limas...

I don't "worry" about pleasing the neighbors but I don't want to totally screw up and become the neighborhood eyesore either. My last garden was mostly in the public view because of how my home was placed on the lot. I had a private backyard but it was pretty small. My new home is a corner lot...

Hmmmm I think a more appropriate wrestling name would be Soggy Bottom lol!
Insanity? Well how bout watching your dog trying to find "a spot" on ice covered snow. Oh my gosh it's so funny lol! Almost as much fun as watch me back out of my driveway and run into a snowbank and get stuck lol...

Eclectic is my middle name lol! Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't but I guess that in itself is reflective of my personality. Since I had limited space that got sun in my Oregon home I planted my toms and peppers right in amongst my flowers. I planted lemon cukes one year...wouldn't do...

I've never really done a journal but I do take pictures. Sometime when I'm slogging along I look back at first year pics and remember when I started with. With my new home I bought a spiral of graph paper. I've started plotting my future paradise :-)
This weekend I also went through...

I've made these for cookie exchanges about three years in a row. They are always a big hit :-) I usually add a couple tablespoons of shortening to the chocolate for easier dipping.
