    Recipe Orange & Pineapple "salad"

Reminds me of a recipe (that I dont have) that my mother makes occasionally. She uses a gelatin mold and does two layers. One mixed with cottage cheese and nuts, and then the next layer is the "see through" layer with orange jello, mandarin oranges, maraschino cherries. Its AWESOME stuff. Im...

    Recipe Silk Pie - dessert

Just as something to think about, Ive also considered putting the fruit on the crust FIRST, then pouring the pudding on. This would make the pudding/fruit mix more solid and easier to coat with Cool Whip. Just a thought.

    Recipe Captains Meatloaf

heh, you've got that right. My mother always used the traditional pans. (Not that I didnt like her meatloaf, I enjoyed it for sure...in fact thats where the "sauce" comes from). But baking on the flat pan is just so much better. Plus, even the bottom gets a little bit crisp which is great. Last...

    Recipe Captains Meatloaf

For any meatloaf, I always recommend baking on a FLAT PAN. When you use a traditional meatloaf pan, the sides dont get the opportunity to get lightly crisped, or coated with a sauce like you get with a flat pan. That, and meat coming out looking like a loaf of bread is a little odd ;)...

Tons of these bugs in my garden bed! Please help identify

Confirmation...they are Sowbugs. Reducing moisture will help as they require moist areas to survive. Diatomaceous Earth can also be mixed in where they are at which will dehydrate them and kill them. Thanks guys !

Tons of these bugs in my garden bed! Please help identify

Thanks guys. At least now I have something to go on. I think you're right by the way about the bite marks on the rose bush leaves. I was told to use a spray insecticide on it, as well as our butterfly bush which is having the same issue. On a positive note, the bulbs we planted are finally...

Tons of these bugs in my garden bed! Please help identify

I was weeding out the front garden bed yesterday and noticed that there are a TON of these bugs crawling around just under the surface of the dirt and mulch (not on top). What are they and how do I get rid of them? I have a bunch of bite marks on leaves from the rose bush and other things as well :(

    Recipe Blueberry Syrup

Theres nothing Maria likes better than my blueberry pancakes :) What goes better with blueberry pancakes than blueberry syrup? I usually buy a store made syrup, than simmer in fresh blueberries to the syrup for a sweet and tangy blueberry syrup. I'll have to give yours a try. Thanks !

    Recipe Tri-color Chicken Tortellini

Captain's Chicken Tortellini Im a huge fan of Italian food so this is a favortie of mine. Ate something similar at a restaurant once and decided I needed to come up with a recipe of my own. Hope you enjoy it :) This dish is a tasty chicken/pasta combo in a creamy marinara sauce. Serves...

Starting from scratch, small backyard garden

Outside of any recommendations for placement and plant type (which are still welcomed!), what are your thoughts on the possibilities for the tree type in the yard? Right now I have Dogwood, Japanese Maple and Witch Hazel on the list of possibilities. (Remember zone 6a). Thanks !

    Hi :)

Thanks for the warm welcome. I posted a thread about my immediate plans to do some planting of shrubs and perennials, a few bulbs and hopefully a tree as well. Aside from that, I am also interested in growing some veggies for cooking too. I'll ask more about that in a bit. :)
