Ron, it looks like my Copper King, except that my leaves are more purplish.

It could be skunks going after grubs, not sure how hot and dry your summer was, but if it was like here Grubs are going to be plentiful. I have seen damage in our yard and others yards in the past that looks similar to that.

Alrighty kiddos, it is that time, what is everyone canning and freezing this year? Any interesting recipes to share? What does everyone have to say about Refrigerator pickles? I am in the mode now, so the next 3 to 4 weeks should be full of activity for me.

Could be mealy bugs too, aphids like a little more succulent growth generally. You could use the same treatment for either bug.

Nothing worked on Chipmunks for me...cayenne pepper, chopped up bars of soap, cat hair, Bruce hair, moth balls, netting....NOTHING!!
I bought chipmunk killer, but felt guilty and returned it...but may go back and repurchase it.

I had half of my chest freezer waiting for my bumper crop. Oh well, next year the "big guns" come out...actually I am trying to figure out how to keep them away without killing them. I have a while to get it figured out.

Wish I could say that we had good luck with our harvesting this year, but the chipmunks ate $400 worth of blueberries, the jap beetles desimated the greenbeans, and the tomatoes have been pecked by birds. A very discouraging year. And the hot pepper spray didn't work either.

crabber, I always look forward to your organic approach, thanks

I planted one pineapple tomato too, they are my favorite heirloom. To bad the production is so low on them. I planted 8 better boys, 4 lemon boys and one pineapple.

I found a baby mantis on my Brugmansia last night when I was grooming it, VERY COOL!!

I like both them and the sweet dumplings. I cut them in half and put the cut side down and bake them until soft. Turn them over put a little butter and brown sugar in the "hole" and eat them. YUM. See, now tomorrow I am going to have to get me one cause my mouth is watering.

That makes me hungry for a "delicata", I think that is the name of the green and white striped one.

The bindweed is way outta control. At our house in Ontario there were some blue rug junipers planted as a ground cover in a bed...well, the bindweed got in there and OMgosh what a huge pain! Couldn't get the roots if you pulled them and the only way to get rid of them was to paint the roundup...

I did manage to get us all of the salsa, tomato sauce and corn frozen or canned that we need for this next year, but compared to last year I didn't do much. With hubby travelling so much we don't use stuff much unless we have company. I did miss doing it though. I still would like to make...

I was a slacker this year, did salsa and spaghetti sauce, that is it. I do most of my canning and freezing in late august and sept, but I wasn't home. Now it is cooling down in PA, so don't know what I will get done yet this year.

I will start back on the old thread probably.

I wasn't worried in the slightest! We have a new gal joining our craft group this year, maybe several, but one is a quilter. The other is a Korean gal who may be moving with her hubby to our area and she does Japanese painting. It could get very fun.

Yikes Kya, you didn't tell me that is where that came from...ha. Well, my bloodwork is down to once a year now, got my iron levels under control.

Hey, off topic, but I learned a new portuguese word the other night...estufa, which means oven or stove in Spanish, it means greenhouse in portuguese, how funny is that? You just never see a greenhouse down here.
