    Maggie, its some times called a star fish plant , this a smaller one about 6 inches, but not the smallest, I call him Red Harry / Hirsuta is his real name, if I get time I'll take a picture of the smallest one in bloom, about 2 inches wide

    with all the rain we had today my Stapelia Gigantea bloomed for me to day its the largest its ever been reaching 15 inches wide and it did stink :eek: and the flies and bees had a field day laying egg, its a shame it won't stay open more than 2 days, but I still have 4 more buds to open yet :D...

    Ron, I didn't see your post before I posted mine about these great plants, I think there so cool looking when they get older, I've never had luck with starting plants from seed so I have to buy mine to get cool plants

    I found this Adenium Obesum Desert rose at Wal-Mart, I was just looking and I hear it call my name :D so it jump into my cart and came home with me, I don't know what color the flowers are until next spring, I have one all ready but its still a few years away from blooming

    Bamboo for Beginners

    Trax, I think I just might do some shopping for bamboo next week, Thanks for the help, I want to plant it on the north side of the back yard to hide the junk form the house next door, it gets full sun all most all day.

    Huge unknown spider ??

    I have lots of spider's in my shade house,but they don't bite they just eat little bugs that get on my plants they seem to love mealy bugs so I let them be, I have a Robin that hangs out in my shade house and eats the larger spider's and other bugs in there, so far hes not harmed any plants,

    After 4 years my Epiphyllum Grace Ann is starting to bloom only one flower now but with lots more buds on her :D, it was worth the wait and I want more blooms

    Bacon grease I would never be with out it I use it on my bread pans, yes I still use old heavy metal pans for my bread, when it comes out of the oven I rub it with bacon grease it puts a shine on it and keeps it from drying out, egs cooked in bacon grease is on my list of favorite food I grew up...

    it will help them bloom more by deadheading them, you can keep them in the house all winter in a bright window and then but them back out in the spring

    We have a bloom last night it started to bloom around 8:00pm and by 11:00 pm is was open all the way, enjoy until bud 2 & 3 bloom in about 4 weeks :D, its just a shame the flowers don't last longer, if you look real close at pic 2 you can see that a bug has started to eat the flowers :mad:

    Dor, your right it is in morning sun and then filtered sun the rest of the day, I found if you keep the roots shaded the don't mine a little more sun,now if I could get my Strictum to bloom I would be a very happy Bear,its over 5yrs old and just keeps growing and no blooms

    Dor, your night blooming Cereus looks more to be a Hookeri aka Strictum, the flowers are right for a Strictum and its all so a night bloomer, here a pic of a night blooming cereus the leaves are much wider and flatter

    All most Just about a week to go and it should open,the bud is now 5.5 inches long, new bud is growing faster than the first one did, Crabbergirl, don't go crazy if your plants starts to get woody looking it will still bloom, don't give up on it, give it time and you will be sitting up waiting...

    Major Ant Problem!

    I would be careful on killing the ants, some plants need them to bloom, like Peony,I have a few cactus that will not bloom if there no ants, right now I have 3 cactus that have set buds and there are ants all over them and with it taken over 4 years to bloom I would hate to see the buds dry up...

    mine didn't set bud until I moved it into the full sun, they can take lots of abuse but you must feed them once a month starting around Feb until late Oct, or just before the first frost, the only thing I don't like is all the ants that's on the bud, but just like a peony it needs the ants to...
