    greenhouse location

    So....what did you decide on the greenhouse? Did you start some plants yet?

    Gladiolus

    I planted 40+ of the 70 in the bag, using a 6 inch spacing. Looking forward to the multiple colors. I gave the others away thinking they would be planted but now I think they will be neglected and wasted. Never a good deed goes unpunished, lol.

    Stinging on skin after touching orange tree

    Have you ever had an allergic reaction to citrus fruits? If you can peel an orange then it seems strange to have this severe reaction to the leaves, altho they are different.

    Cleaning out my large pots for flowers yesterday, I pulled up one Dahlia with several fat tubers and a green sprout on it. I planted it back. Hope it's not too damaged.     Spring & Summer blooms

    Redbud trees are starting to bloom now in middle Tennessee. I will have to get a picture. None in my yard but down the highway there's plenty. Dogwoods will be next I suppose. We can't plant tomatoes outside til after the dogwoods bloom.

    Starting peas

    I'd go with newspaper, if you must start them inside. Just make sure you cover all the paper with soil and water in well. A good sprinkle of cayenne might help discourage rodents.

    Anyone file their seeds?

    Sandpaper works good too. The only member of the cuke/squash family I use it on is luffas or other gourds like dipper, seems to speed things up a little. I sand the edge but not til I can see white, then soak til they sink then plant in newspaper pots inside. When they get maybe 2 week's growth...

    Japanese Plum

    It would help some to know the varietal name. Is there a tag? There are many like the ones all around Wash DC that have great blooms but no fruit or it tiny and the birds get it.

    Apple Trees

    Good luck with your apple trees. They are such a promise for the future and apples are so versatile. You can eat them fresh or make a pie. Jelly or apple butter, cider or even wine. If that doesn't work out you can have vinegar!

    Seedman.com has seeds for many varieties including some that have the head on a long stem and can be used as a cut flower! Parks sells seed for peacock too.

    My veggie garden

    Paw-paw is the only member of the custard-apple family that will grow this far north (tn 7) and we sometimes have spring frost complications. They are common along creeks in shady areas. Papaya is so tropical that they must be imported from much further south. Tasty tho when we can get them...

    Bankysmith~ In making a lot of crosses, as seed companies are prone to do, it was discovered that if "A" melon was crossed with "B" melon, the seeds from the resulting fruit would always produce seedless melons, as long as they were pollinated with another melon. Confused yet? So they keep 2...

    Sorry Ron, the pink is only a fungicide. If you want the Ni-tro-gen (a brand name)you gotta buy that separately!

    Hmmm...over here (Tennessee,US) Paw-paw and Papaya are 2 entirely different fruits. Papaya is good as a tenderizer.

    Wanted Seeds for growing dry beans

    Some bean seed for planting is treated with fungicide, but that has to be a bright pink color so you know not to eat them. Beans sold as food don't have a coating. Where do these rumors come from anyway.....

    You also have to keep away any other watermelons except the intended pollinators or you will have seeds in yer seedless.
