There are two varieties and can be distinguished by looking at the underside of the leaves. The fish-bone type of leaf on the left is the Tall Oregon-grape with the pattern of the Dwarf plant is on the right

There are lots of ducks here as they come to spend the winter away from the prairies.

There are a great number if interesting bugs, some good for the garden and some not so good. Here is a good one, better than ladybugs for aphids. A green lacewing, pretty small but does the trick. Show us some of yours.

Any where to put fungi? This is one of my favorite fungi.

I like your State bird, the Western Meadowlark, but I haven't seen one for a few years now.

Our bird is the Steller's Jay, took this on the sundeck.

Nice to see all those water birds, I see you have a goldeneye there as well.

Must be great to see so many hummers. We get some but there is very few times when we see two at the feeder together.

We don't get a lot of hummers here but we do have the Anna's the year round, even when it is snowing.

The other woodpecker that we have in this area is the northern flicker. Here are a couple of them on the deck, the male and female.

I have 4 species of woodpeckers visiting the feeders on the sundeck. Also have the females and the males. Pileated female, male and female downy, hairy and flicker. here are a few pics. Flicker tomorrow (if I remember)

Birds
I enjoy the garden and gardening like all those on here, I think a good additiion could be garden birds and another (if not already in here) woodland stuff, fungi, mosses, lichens and ferns etc. Just a couple of ideas that interest me. Perhaps a link to members web sites, blogs etc...
