    Organic Compost Must read if you use this

    "Colored paper and printed promotional leaflets" While I avoid them myself, I heard some people are not worried, since modern inks a soy based (?) Can anybody provide more information on that?

    Ashes in compost?

    I heard talk about wood ashes as a sink for heavy metals. But ashes and charcoal are a traditionally valued fertilizer. If not overused, as Crabbergirl already pointed out, they do rather well in a compost.

    damping off - yup another thread on it

    Did you keep the seedlings under glass indoors? Too warm / too moist / no ventilation inside ----> sudden temperature shock / low humidity / wind outside will very likely make a little plant catch a cold.

    Fertilizer/feed help

    Now it´s too late, so for the next year adding some good compost to your beds may do the trick. During the season, you can collect lots of nettles, put them in a bucket with water, then let that ferment for a couple of weeks (caution, stinks). Somewhat diluted this stuff can give tomatoes and...

    Poppies won't grow past seedling stage

    Poppies tend to get stuck in a "lettuce" stage, then sort of nothing happens for a while. In hard or badly drained ground they can be sensitive during that time, as the root and the rest of the plant are connected by a skinny stem.

    That´s a potential problem in any "trade". Ask or doctor or a car mechanic...

    Coffee Grounds

    With access to such an amount of coffee grounds I´d set up an extra compost, to be mixed with charcoal and wood ashes to get some kind of Terra Preta, which a lot of different plants like very much.
