    Tree identification

Awesome. Thank you. I'm going to give it a go. I think my mom might like a few for her yard.

    Tree identification

That's how this one started too. It was in a pot she got as a gift from her son. She decided to plant it in her backyard a few years ago and now it's at least 15' tall. I think it's pretty cool looking. I like this idea of it growing from a cutting. Is there something special I would need to do...

    Tree identification

A friend has this tree/bush in her backyard. It was a gift and she's wondering what it is. Her son said they use the branches of it in flower shops. I hope these photos are good enough to tell what it is. The branches are curly, some more than others. Thanks...

    Hollyhocks issue

I keep finding these problems all over my friend's yard. Here's what her Hollyhocks are currently looking like. I'm sure you know what it is and how to treat it so I'll just say the THANKS at this point! Matt http://i1048.photobucket.com/albums/s365/mfsinger/IMG_0495.jpg...

    Weed or not?

I am so glad I found this forum but I'm starting to feel like a pain. I'm not a gardener but I play one (not on tv though). Anyway, my friend wanted a bunch of lillys removed from one of her extremely full and overcrowded beds. There's a bunch of different things crammed in here and I'm not sure...

Recommended fungicide for black sooty mold

Perfect. Thanks! I was actually thinking of removing the mulch as it's the red kind. The lady that I do all this amateur lawn/garden care for read something about arsenic concerns in that type of mulch. I haven't found all the details yet but I was going to ask if she wanted me to remove it...

Recommended fungicide for black sooty mold

What fungicide should I use to control the black sooty mold now that the scale has been treated? I'm hoping that it will also control the powdery looking mold "stuff" that grows on one of her other plants every year. I'm not sure what the name of that plant is but it gets a white powdery...

    Another Holly bush issue

Should I be concerned about the brown edges and yellowing of the leaves? I haven't done anything with PH yet. The bush hasn't had any sort of treatment this year. I would mention that we've had freezing temperatures overnight lately (Michigan) but I'm pretty sure holly bushes are rather...

    Another Holly bush issue

I took these photos of my mom's holly bush a few days ago. It's obviously got an issue. I'm also wondering if there's something I need to do to give it a growth boost. It hasn't really grown much in the past few years. It's pretty pathetic actually. I'm not sure if it's location or soil PH or...

Holly bush disease of some sort

Wahooooo! So, I apply the systemic insecticide and wait for a few weeks before I start treating the mold? I've got leather gloves but, as I discovered two days ago, the back side has two strips that are cloth only. I'm sure you can guess how I realized there was only cloth there! I think this...

Holly bush disease of some sort

Here are the photos I was able to snap today. I hope they clearly show the black stuff. http://i1048.photobucket.com/albums/s365/mfsinger/IMG_0431.jpg http://i1048.photobucket.com/albums/s365/mfsinger/IMG_0430.jpg http://i1048.photobucket.com/albums/s365/mfsinger/IMG_0429.jpg...

What kind of bush is this?

I'm not sure about the berries. I'll have to ask her. I can't remember if it had any last year. Someone from a different forum said it looked like a "Viburnum X carlcephalum or similar". I found a photo via Google at http://classes.hortla.wsu.edu/hort231/List02/Vibxcarl.html. It looks exactly...

Holly bush disease of some sort

I'll go over to her house later today and inspect the bush as closely as possible. I'll also grab some close up photos. Thanks for responding.

Holly bush disease of some sort

A couple of people I know have an issue with their holly bushes and I can't find a decent answer. I should take some photos and post them when I have a moment. The bush has this black "stuff" covering parts of it's branches. I don't see it on the leaves nor is there any sign of damage to them...

What kind of bush is this?

This bush/tree belongs to a senior citizen friend of mine and I think she wants to get another one. The problem is that no one seems to know what it is. It's extremely fragrant if that helps at all. We live in Michigan but I doubt that matters much other than possibly varieties. Thanks...

    Questions about identifying an item

I just joined the forum today so I apologize in advance if I do something wrong. I have a question about a bush/tree that a senior citizen friend of mine owns. She has no idea what it is and can't seem to find anyone locally that might know. I was hoping to post a link to some photos and see if...
