I can't plant all these, that's the problem! I have room for about 30 tomato plants in the main garden, and a few more of the dwarfs in containers. I rarely plant more than one or two of each variety that I grow that season. My problem is that my "must grow" list keeps getting longer and...

So, now that Catalog Fondling Season is in full swing, have you made a tomato wish list? Mine is way, way too long, but it's fun to dream, isn't it? This is what I have seeds for so far, some from trades, some given to me by generous tomato lovers, and some that I bought. It's way to much, but I...

She's been difficult to hang the right name on. She was so malnourished and had just had her spay surgery when I brought her home, so it's just been the last few days that her personality has really emerged.
I tried China, Emily, Shadow, Stormy, Henrietta, and Sally. I wanted to call her...

And another anolis lizard.
've never been sure if my beloved comes to South Carolina every Christmas to see me, or to enjoy the sunny and warm spell we usually have around Christmas. Either way, once the sun is up and shining, you can find him parked in chair out back, working on his trophy...

I thought all my company had left, then I spotted this uninvited fellow.
I've had a bit of a problem since they put my new door up, after the break-in. the old storm door doesn't fit right, but I haven't been able to afford a new one. So, there are gaps between the storm door and the regular...

I watched my boy cat Fiddler making an effortless standing jump straight up about 4 or 5 feet in the air and smack a dragon fly between his paws. It was impressive, and I decided then we would wait until he mellowed a bit before putting any feeders out.
I feel guilty on cold mornings, but I...

What great pictures! So, Wolfie, do you have to take out a second mortgage to fill all those feeders? I wish I could put up a feeder or two, but the cats are still young and avid hunters.

Oh, that's awful. I don't understand people, why can't they just accept their animals for what they are?
Sorry, I've been thinking very hard about bringing another dog into the family, and so browsing a lot of rescue sites. I feel the pressure of a full blown rant about irresponsible people and...

Physiology is the study of mechanical and/or biochemical functions of an organism, not its behavior, although it can affect an organism's behavior. Ecophysiology comes a little closer to what you're talking about, but I think plain old Ecology is what you want.

I use 9 and 16 oz plastic cups from Walmart if I don't have enough freebies. Just punch a hole in the bottom and away you go.

I played rugby and soccer, Mom made me quit playing football when I turned about 12 or 13. She said "they're not tackling you because you're on the other team." Which was absurd, because they couldn't tackle me at all, I was too strong.

That would be the best part.

There are cold hardy citrus trees, but I don't know if there are specifically cold hardy grapefruit trees. I think it would depend on your zone, too. Here's a good site to check out, and you might be able to email them for more information.

I'm always blown away by the night sky in Vermont when we camp up there in the summer. A couple of years ago we got there before any of the rest of our group, and were enjoying the beauty of the wild flower meadow. It was so still the bees sounded loud! I turned to my much beloved geek man and...

Wow again! Great picture!
And, yeah, what Crabbergirl said. We don't have that kind of open space. I never even seen more than 5 or 6 deer together at a time, and that's always does and fawns. My sister did get a picture of 5 sets of glowing eyes in her garden this summer from the deer eating...

Well, there was a pretty heavy and unexpected frost last night, so I think that puts an official end to my season.
-
Really? I think you're the first person I know who has actually gotten bananas from a banana tree.
-
We're supposed to have several nights in the low 30's at the end of the week, so that will probably be it for me. The temptation is to try and nurse them along a bit longer, but I really need to get the garden cleaned out and get some compost in so the soil will be ready for spring planting.
I...

Nice!
Are they in a greenhouse?
