What do you plant in containers?

I have a friend who is growing tomatoes in hanging baskets for the first time. From the picture I think she'll be watering them every few hours in the summer heat. At least they won’t be falling out of the bottom. I just hope everyone gets lots of nice juicy tomatoes this year especially me. LOL

    Parsley dark moss curled

CG is that a salad? I've never heard of it before. RR I can't open Sunflower's link so I don't know what it says. My mother always said to just sprinkle the seeds on top of the soil and walk away. I only did it once because I let it go to seed and self seed. I pull up the ones I don’t want...

    Raised veggie beds

Dor I think I am the one who started the tarp idea. I would only use it to cover the treated lumber but not over the sod. I would just put down some newpaper over the sod then pile on the soil, compost etc. That would be more then enough to kill the sod. The sod will compost and all those...

    The work has begun....

Ha Ha I knew he'd till. It's wonderful to see your cheerful face. I love to play in the dirt but my days of big piles like that have come and gone. I hope it will all work out great for you.

What do you plant in containers?

I'd love to try the upside down tomato but we get such crazy winds here I wouldn't dare. I have to stake everything as it is. I hope it works well for everyone else.

Plant a row for the hungry!

CG good luck dealing with those officials. They are maddening to say the least. I heard there was a group here who wanted to start a community garden but finally gave up in frustration. My last garden was large so I always grew extra. I took my surplus to the homeless shelter and or the...

    welcome becca

Welcome Becca; If you have the space grow a tunnel of pole beans and other vines. Kids love to go thru or under things. You can use those cheap arbors that they sell for weddings. Good luck.

    Raised veggie beds

Raised beds are fantastic. I find the soil warms up earlier in the season, drains well, it never becomes compacted and I get much fewer weeds. I am not sure if my veggie garden should be considered raised beds or containers. I love that I don’t need to bend over to plant or harvest my veggies...

    Rain rain go away...

Dave we aren't getting to much rain but yesterday it hailed like crazy for a while and this morning it snowed for a while. It is far colder then it usually is this time of year. We are at least three to four weeks behind schedule here so I’m not planting things I would usually already have in...

    Starting a compost

I saw some woman claim to make compost in a black garbage bag. She filled it sprayed it with a hose and poked a bunch of holes in the bag. She said she kicks it around every time she goes in the garden and in time gets compost. I'm wondering what everyone thinks of this. Will it work...

    Sharing a few flowers.

I am so jealous of all the beautiful color. All I have are some daffs and a few hyacinths in bloom. Everything is really late this year. Thanks everyone for sharing.

    WhAT IS THIS?

Kay was it in a tropical bouquet? Are the leaves a little leathery? I may be way off base but it looks like protea to me. Even the bud looks like protea. They are amazing flowers. In Hawaii they grow dozens of different varieties and they also use the foliage in bouquets. I've never grown...

    Hydrangeas

I'm kind of glad it was knocking on death's door if it wasn't they wouldn't have thrown it out and I wouldn't have it now. :) Gloria from what I've read the white and the mint green should come back the same color. Only the pinks and blues change color depending on the nutrients in the soil.

    Recipe Coconut Cream Pies

Kim all three sound wonderful. I love coconut cream pie but coconut turnovers are my favorite. I'll have to dig up that recipe. That orangecile pie sounds yummy. You'll have to post your recipe. BTW you can put the coconut in the microwave for about 5 minuets to get the meat away from...

    Hydrangeas

My hydrangea was found in someone's trash near death. I brought it home and nursed it back to health. It didn't bloom for the first three years. When we moved here I brought it with me. The first two years here it bloomed like crazy. On the south side the blooms were blue on the north pink...
