I have never grown the Scotch Bonnet pepper. I don't need anything hotter than the Habanero anyway. I have taken bites of peppers like the Serrano and Jalapeno, but I have never had the guts to try a bite from the Habanero unless it is in the salsa I make. I know there are people that can eat them with nothing else, but I am not one of them. I know you can build a tolerance for the hot peppers, but I have no urge to do so.
 
Our neighbor loves hot peppers of any sort and he had an odd thing happen this year~while the squirrels ate all the blossoms from my squash plant, the squirrels ate not only the blossoms from his pepper plants but EVEN THE JALAPENO PEPPERS<<<<. We laugh about how to recognize THOSE squirrels: firebreathing squirrels????? ~ :)
 


I picked the rest of my peppers today. I filled three 5-gallon buckets full. I don't need any more of them so I am taking them to the nursing home to pass out to the staff people there.
 
I would like the address of this nursing home b/c I am going to admit myself there, Randy! ~ :) (No mind you, I said 'ADMIT' not 'COMMIT' ......) Curbie
 
I'm afraid if they let you in, they may not let you out. LOL There were some staff members that were not there today that will be in tomorrow and I left the buckets there so they could pilfer some peppers too. I'll retrieve the buckets next week. I am just about ready to end my tenth year of going there to read to the residents. It sure has been fun. One of the ladies there tells me just about every week that I am having entirely too much fun. She is right, but she is also laughing with me.

Oh, Im sure they would let you in. I bet if we sat at the same table when I read to them, we could carry on a banter that would probably baffle them. Some of them are still pretty sharp though. One of my favorites is fading though. I have always been able to make her laugh. Her name is Norma Jean and I act like I make a mistake and call her Marilyn. Norma Jean was Marilyn Monroe's real name although I don't remember her real last name and it doesn't matter anyway. But anytime Norma Jean was within earshot, I would whisper loudly to someone close by that the lady over there was Marilyn Monroe and she is here under an assumed name. She would look over at me and see I was talking about her and a big grin would come over her face.
 
We're up here in Pittsburgh again visiting my 93 y/o Dad who is in the nursing home part of this facility now. Since I lived up here for 4 months past winter, I know all the nurses and have tried to treat them like royalty. We try to always bring our chocolate Lab with us and Dad adores seeing her but now the nurses 'steal' her ~ "Mrs. So & So needs to see the dog and then I'll take Ellie to see Frank and JW hasn't seen the dog lately and I promise to bring her back.Oh...I need to take her over to Assisted Living b/c George was asking about her. When do you go back home?" In 15 minutes, Feathers so get going ~ FAST! Yep, I can just see you and me there, Randy. I'd be singing b/c reading is boring to me and nobody would know what is going on b/c I'd be interrupting and asking too many questions. But we sure would make 'em laugh! :)
 
The interruptions are good. If I read through a whole story without being interrupted, they would probably all go to sleep. There was one time the room where I read was being used by a lady that came in and took care of feet. So they moved me into the TV room where there were about 20 people. Largest listening audience I ever had there. I started reading though after they turned off the TV and the longer I read, the quieter it got. When I got to the end of the story, there was not a single person that was still awake. The silence was so deafening this fellow close by lifted his head and said, "Sure is quiet, isn't it?" I had put everyone to sleep.
 


I'll be late getting on tomorrow. I get to go over to the fire station and cook breakfast for the crew there. My sourdough is working on top of the refrigerator.
 
That is so awesome Randy, you are such a loving thoughtful person and I'm sooooooo glad to be able to call you my adopted dad. Many hugs to you.
 
It was fun, Laurie. Did I fix you sourdough pancakes when you were here? If not, it will be a "must do" next time around. The breakfast went well, although they did get an alarm right at the end. But by then we were just sipping coffee.
 
I think we had blueberry pancakes when I was there. I will never turn down pancakes esp. if they are made by you. I have them for dinner once in awhile too.
Glad the call came after everyone was done eating.
 
Those would have been sourdough pancakes then. I only make regular pancakes if I am surprised and don't have time to get the sourdough working. I usually start the night before whether I will make biscuits or pancakes.
 
Yes, I remember now. The blueberries are a big issue around here. I thought about making blueberry sourdough pancakes for the firemen on Friday, but if you can believe it, there are people that do not care for blueberries. I don't know what's wrong with them. I mentioned that to one of the firemen and they said that there were several of the firefighters that don't care for the blueberries. That's good to know though because I sure don't want to waste good blueberries on people that don't like them. I saw the grandson having some of the leftover pancakes this morning for breakfast too. Laurie, I guess I'm going to have to send you a jar of that blueberry conserve. But I could hold out until you come back and see us again. The conserve is not a jam and it is more like a topping. That is what I made it for, at least. But it has blueberries as the main ingredient, lemon, orange, raisins, and the zest of the two citrus fruits as part of the makeup. A friend at church asked me about a blueberry topping and I found that one in the Ball Blue Book. Last year I only made one batch. This year I made two.
 
Hardly went outside today. I started on another batch of pears and prepared them for the dehydrator. Took all afternoon to do enough to fuill the 12 trays.
