For once I didn't get ignored either Maria. The 2nd one though Kameron is the one having problems with his Multiplications tables. He didn't seem to be paying as much attention as Kenneth and Tyler.
He is having problems with the 7's and the 9's Curbie. Any suggestions for me?
Oh, 9's are easy....now look at your hands, knuckle-side up towards you. If the question is 3 X 9 ~ start with left hand and put down the third finger......it equals 27 (that's what's left looking at you ~ 2 and 7. It works EVERY time with nines. Try 6 X 9 ~ count over to the sixth finger, put it down and look at your hands ~ it's 5 on your left hand & 4on your right hand. Always start from the left side when putting down your fingers b/c you will be looking at your 'answer'.
7's? hm.....use a deck of playing cards...your have 4, 7's.=one pile. Pick out whatever ones he is struggling with (3, 4, 5,6,7,8,9) Put the 7's in one pile and the others in another pile. He can practice that way and think he is playing cards! If you get 2 different colors of playing cards ( blue one and a red one) use the 7's from one deck and the rest from another deck. Then he can sort them out when he's done. Put them in a recipe box or a special place (zip loc???) ~ Hope this helps him AND YOU! ~ Curb
Thanks Curbie. I will get the cards for him this week and give Tyler some too so he can step up his game. I loved math and was always good at it. My youngest child is math deficient and a couple of my grandsons too. This should help me to help them.
I am SO glad to be helpful! When this kid in my class said," YOU are REALLY stupid b/c >>> I << can show you a VERY easy way", I turned the class over to him and he taught the class. After THAT, I thought: this kid is a natural teacher. He stood in front of the class and then I changed the way I taught him..... He'd say something like,"May I please show the class about painting a mural? The art teacher doesn't know how to do it." "OH! May I please cook with the class?" "Can we do a research project but you have to do that with 'them' " It was the funniest year I ever spent teaching. He has gone on to be an accountant and on the school board. ~
Sure, you can. LOL In years past, I had to do some thinking to figure out what 9 x 6 was because it was so close to 8 x 7. I think I used the numbers enough to finally get it straight about 30 years ago or so, but having all my fingers could have been pretty helpful back then.
Once you get arthritis.......it won't work either My kids would say things like~ if ithe answer always adds up to NINE, can we use 2, 3, and 4 ? That's 9. Oh, please try THAT idea on your fingers." "Can we use it on the playground?" "Does the canned food drive mean we need the food in a can?" Let's research 'non-perishable' One little 8 y/o girl said (no kidding),"So we're collecting cans? The food doesn't have to be in the cans?" She was learning 2 languages at that time and I encouraged her to learn. Just learn. She is now an government interpreter b/c she was learning Farsi through her church for Middle Eastern countries. I rarely knew what the kids were talking about but they learned so 'No child left behind' meant nothing to them. We were a clump.~ Curbster
I had an interesting visit at the nursing home today. It doesn't surprise me when someone gets up and leaves while I am reading, but today there wasn't anybody left when I was reading the last story. Everyone had gotten up and left. First time that has ever happened. That's not as funny as the time I put about 20 people to sleep though.
Shane's teacher has offered to tutor him after school 30 minutes 2 times a week in Math. That is the only subject he has a C in....all others are A's & B's.
We are hoping for HONOR ROLL next grade card!
Curbie, it didn't bother me. The first part of the session was a hoot. I told them a couple of stories and they were laughing their heads off when the facility director stepped in with another person.
