And btw, zOmg!! I planted a banana plant corm in the garden more than a month ago. I thought it was dead and the last time I checked, it looked really dead. That was before the accident and I haven't been to the gardens much since then.
I went out there today and found these!!!!!!
It made 2 big pups and the mama plant is starting to make a leaf too!!!!!!
Here's the photos I just shot about 20 minutes ago!
btw, these are Ice Cream banana plants and they grow to about 20 feet tall!!
Now I have 5 banana plants!! One more and I'll have as many as Curbie!!
Btw, the new banana plant in the pot is making a leaf too! I'll add a photo when it unfurls!

It is amost the same as cannas!
They do look similar in they way they shoot up out of the ground, and unfurl their leaves!
Looking out over the lake there is a bit of a break in the clouds!
To the west the clouds are building and should be here in 15 minutes!
The speed of the clouds are picking up!
Oooo! That was a ground rumbler! The table viberated from the procussion!
I think it's almost time to unplug my laptop and ride out this next wave of clouds!

uh oh ...... I grew a new leaf last night. I KNOW this plant likes Michael Jackson. I sang last night and now I have a new leaf If this thing pops out of the pot, I will have a problem. Does 'Sit down and shut up' work with a banana plant? ~ Nanna

Correct me if I am wrong, but I had always been taught that if you cut the trunk, instead of letting it naturally die back that you would not get bananas the next year. Is that correct? When I live down south an old Cuban man told me never cut the trunk. Just wondering if you know about that or not?

Trax is on to something. You could get ( recycled of course) one of those kids plastic wagons that has the high sides. Drill a couple drain holes in the bottom and plant a couple nanas in it. Then you just roll it in and roll it out

Even letting it die back naturally can kill the top of the true stem that the bananas grow on. The best way to know when you can safely cut the stem is to look for a flag leaf. I'll add this so Curbie understands: The flag leaf is a leaf that's a lot smaller than the other leafs. The banana tree makes that leaf a few days before the banana-making stem starts growing up from the corm.
If you cut the stem before the banana tree makes a flag leaf then it will still make bananas. You can use the leaf counting method too. The banana tree will make about 35-45 leafs before it makes a flag leaf.
The really important thing to remember is that the stem that will make the bananas doesn't sprout - in the middle of the big stem - until the banana tree makes it's flag leaf. If you don't cut the banana-making stem, the banana tree can still make bananas!

Great pics Trax they look really healthy.......Curbie the larger bananas get pretty tall that's why I only grow dwarf ones, if you can call 10-12ft dwarf

10-12 feet isn't very big. I needa send you a Musa Itinerans. They only grow about 40 feet!
I need a 40 foot banana tree like I need another hole in my head! I have a question ~ I notice these little water droplets on hte ends of the banana tree leaves, usually in the morning. Is that normal? ~ NanaMama

Here's my banana plants so far this year. I shot all these photos yesterday and today.
Btw, the 1st 2 are actually my little brother's but we share our plants and grow them together.
The tall tree I have had for a long time and actually moved it from another town. It suffered shock and finally came back. Then the last 2 years we have had very hard unusal freezes and it just never seems to get back to normal. It has borne fruit a couple times and the pups come up 2 -3 at a time but just get killed by the freezes.
The little trees were about 12-14 feet tall a couple years ago but again the freezes got them. I have several new pups for it this year but if we get the crazy cold we have had they won't make it either
Awesome, Crabbergirl! That 1st banana plant has a huge leaf, wow! I really like those fan palms in the photo too. Btw, you could separate the pups with some roots on them and keep them as houseplants.
