OMGosh ~ does anyone want a 'puppy'? I got 2 new leaves today! I really think it has to do with these 'puppies' listening to ♫. I'm wandering around saying,"stop growing....now it's time to stop growing ~ right now."Then I go 'Pittburgh' on them. I have 2 pots and STILL have no clue what I'm doing so WHY are they GROWING????? Could they just sit down and shut up? Geez.....who started this? This was a knucklehead idea. I'm going to have 'puppies' before I have grandchildren. oh roar. :) ~ Curbster
 


Banana plants love heat! The hotter it is, the faster they grow! Did you know a banana plant can grow 6 feet in just one summer? Yay! They can grow even faster than that if you're lucky!
If you really want them to grow really fast, keep them very warm! :)

Btw, congrats on the leaves and puppies! :D
 
Thought I'd show you my 'trees'. What do I do about the leaves that have been 'sun-burned'? See I really do have 2 pots of these things~red one and gray one. Have I ever told you I don't know what I'm doing? Maybe I'm too old to learn :p ~ Curbie

Don't worry about the sunburns on the leaves. They'll fix themselves.

Btw, never use plastic bags to ship bananas. That can cause corm rot and leaf rot.
Okay, it's time for a shipping lesson.

1. Separating pups: Wait till the pup is almost 2 feet tall. The pup is part of the mother plant and doesn't have it's own roots. Carefully dig the dirt away from the pup and the part of the corm where the pup is till you find roots. The roots are very very tender and break easy. Where the pup is attached to the corm (using a very sharp knife), cut off a piece of the corm with roots attached to it. Gently plant the pup in another pot being very careful to not break the roots.

Remember: It's not easy and if the pup or roots break, the pup will die.

2. Packaging: Wrap the bottom and roots of the pup with dry garden mix or dirt. Wrap that with very moist paper or paper towels. Punch a lot of holes in a large plastic sandwich bag. Put the bottom of the plant in the sandwich bag and tape the opening together loosely. Find a box that's the right size. Put the pup in the box and use paper or styro peanuts to pack the box with. This is to make sure that the stem doesn't break if the postal guyz turn the box upside down.

3. Shipping. Use the fastest method. If I send a pup to someone I'll use Express mail. Priority mail isn't usually fast enough. It needs to arrive in 2-4 days.
 


Great advice Trax. I love your pups too they're going really well. Curbie send to them to Crabber asap before they get too large lol. Took a pic of my little fella and it's still getting leaves even though it's winter:)

That's lovely Wombat! I DO think mine have already gotten to big to ship AND since they like hot weather, our 97° and 100° should make them grow like crazy. oh boy :) Guess we're on a GROWING curve! ~ Curbster ☼

We are def on a growing curve! Mine are getting a lot taller and making new leafs! :)
 
They're still pretty small so you could prolly get some sticks and garden cloth and make a tent for them. That would filter out a lot of sunlight. :)
 
I finished digging the new pepper garden early! :D I can dig fast even sitting on a chair. So I decided it's time to put the other banana plant and elephant ears in a garden. So I dug another garden and planted those! Here's some pictures I just took of what I planted today.
