My banana project

Okay. After almost a whole month of 100*F and higher, I had to rescue my banana plant. I was fertilizing and giving it enough water but it was still dying.
The corm is very healthy and about 9 inches wide. The lower part of the stems are solid and healthy too but all the new leaves were getting cooked. They even turned into black mush. The pup on the right side of the pot was almost totally dead so I had to cut it really short. Anyway, I cut all the dead leaves off and potted the whole thing up in dirt mixed with Miracle Gro Organic potting mix.
I might re-pot it again tonight since I have a larger pot and it needs more space. I know a guy who grew one inside for a whole year and it was about 8 feet tall so I'm gonna do the same thing with this one.
Btw, that's our front yard in the photo, lol. We're doing voluntary water rationing cause of the drought so it's not green anymore. Just dead. We had a few big storms this year but the weather channel said this is one of the worst droughts since the dust bowl and it might be a long time before we get any more rain.
The banana plant in the small pot is the dwarf Cavendish. That will have to stay in it's pot too till the heat and drought end. No probs though, the tomatoes and peppers are still okay and I've been doing a lot of reading about indoor gardens.

OH! TRAX! THIS is what I have: dwarf Cavendish. Can you get a different shaped pot? Like a deeper one? Different shape? Mine are annoying me b/c they keep GROWING! MTM brought in a HUGE cooler last night at about midnight and I was YELLING,"DON'T PUT IT NEAR the BANANA PLANTS!" I'm sure the neighbors loved that. Anybody still want to be my neighbor

And yeah, you can use any pot you want! Dwarf Cavendish banana plants only grow about 7 or 8 feet tall. Deep pots work too! But remember, the corm needs to be near the top and it can get huge!

Oh, CG ~ I'm still in this learning process so go to the grocery store and buy them for now please Takes the pressure off of me. LOL!(what's a corm again, Trax?) I haven't changed anything for these plants other than take them outside. SEVEN FEET TALL! I hope they grow VERY SLOWly. Trax, you could be my neighbor any time you want. You can sleep on the deck and play TONS of ♫ (but you may get cold when it snows).Can you feed cats? Can you play piano? We have one. Bring your telescope and you can cook on the grill. Bring your banana trees! They will fit RIGHT in with the lilacs,clematis, and the honeysuckle. When are you moving in? You can go to University of Maryland to major in agriculture. ~ Curbie

Awesome! And I don't eat much either! I could prolly survive on 2 omlettes in the morning with waffles and 2 big pizzas for lunch if I have a really big supper! I'll grab my tent. Btw, what did you want me to feed the cats to? I can play piano, well, a little.

oh boy..... you may as well just sleep IN the grill! LOL!You don't FEED the cats to ANYTHING (we're not in the swamps of Florida!) Instead of a tent, bring pots and pans and your grocery list ! Better hitchhike with a sign saying "Goin' to Curbie's!" ~ Curbie

My dwarf ducasse is still powering along and I'll need to feed it in a couple of weeks when the chance of frost has passed.
Wow Trax that little fella is really suffering. Can you rig up some shade cloth to help the little guy out? I have to shade my baby ones in the heat of summer as they wilt and no amount of water will make them stand upright until I shade them from about 11am till 3pm during the heat of the day. I wish I could grow cavendish but we're not allowed ( govt, regs) as I love the flavour.

I can hardly wait to live in a stall! How big is it? Does it come with a bed? Electricity? Bathroom? Can CG and I both fit in it? This morning, I said to MTMailman,"You have to move that cooler before you leave." He didn't so I was dragging this HUGE cooler so my cavendish could get some space. ~ BananaMama

I started the shopping list with the 64 lobsters and 40 pounds of shrimp. If we eat them all up before the weeks over we can get some more. I hope you have a freezer big enough for all the ice cream, popsicles, push pops, and sherbet sticks. I'll add all the other stuff when I get some more time!

At least Australia's controlling banana diseases! It'll prolly be the only place anyone can buy bananas in the future.
Anyway, my banana plant was shaded almost all day when it was outside. The only way I can save it is to grow it inside and spray for mites. But I needa have an indoor garden anyway cause everything but the tomatoes and peppers are dying in that heat. I keep it all watered but the sun still burns everything up, even when it's in the shade. My gardens will look a lot different when I can start growing things outside again. The way I do gardens will be a lot different too.

Like what kind of plants would they be? (That's a funny word ~ Xeric.) Like my hostas and honeysuckle and hydrangea and pussy willow and lilacs? Trumpet vine? I'm just asking b/c I don't water anything. Is that like 'Xeric'? ~ Curbie
