My banana project

We have had 2 really bad storms since friday. One blew my 12 ft. banana tree over by bending it in the middle. It was really skinny and it just doubled over I tried staking it back up but not sure it will work.

Hey Crabbergirl,
Ouch! If you try to prop that banana tree up, it will prolly just rot where it bent over. If it does start rotting there, you may have to chop the top off and let it grow back. But remember, a damaged banana tree usually makes pups. Good luck with that.

Well, I googled Xeric then I googled about Oklahoma a lot. I found out that corn and okra can grow here when it's really hot. It said peppers can too but not much else. A lot of my peppers are still doing good so I'll prolly plant some okra too since it only needs 3 months. We don't get too cold till about November.

Crabber trax is right they usually do make babies after they fall, was it completely out of the ground when it fell or was there still some in the dirt?

Hey Wombat,
The heat wave already passed ridiculous, now it's just totally weird, LOL! But now that I can grow veggies inside and outside, I'll still have some great plants and I can grow the indoor peppers and stuff all winter too! I never tried growing plants in the winter very much so this will def be fun!

I think Curbie started the banana thing, LOL! I mean, she is the NanaMama!

I don't mind being NanaMama! I am an equal opportunity Mom. THESE bananas are THRIVING in our heat. I order tomato plants and get banana plants. Maybe I should learn how to read. WHO in Maryland has SIX banana trees and NO tomato plants? I still don't know what I'm going to do with my banana family when winter appears. Get rid of MTMailman? LOL! ~ Curbie

I still have the others. I needed to move it anyway maybe now is the time.

It kind of just bent in the middle about 4ft off the ground. It isn't brown there yet, so I am keeping my paws crossed.

Nancy did it have a flower or nanas on it? I think I put this pic in before but I managed to save this tree of mine a few years back by propping it up and a bit of tlc. They can surprise you at times, but where there's life there's hope as they say, my paws are crossed for you too.

No fruit or flowers but it looks just like your picture. It just bent I have it proped up with 1 x 2's. maybe it will get strong enough to hold itself back up.

There really is no space here so ..... Do theshrimp thing bear fruit? Blossoms? I could send a banana tree but they have gotten too big. These nana's are growing like weeds in this heat and humidity. My neighbor caught me yelling the other day,"STOP GROWING!" "Were you yelling at ME?????? "oh...no.....i was yelling at these banana trees......" Good thing I don't have more than one neighbor. NEIGHBORS should be neighborly! I'll nominate Trax or Randy ~ maybe Ron or Lynpenny or....Dor.... CG...Jules... Coop?You just have to understand that I yell at banana trees.....Do we have a volunteers? The standards are really high here- the teens come over at all times of the day & night so you have to have food. Always have a dog cookie in your pocket as well as a can of catfood. ~ Curbie

Nancy hopefully it'll get a little better but I think you'll need the props there for quite some time as the top half will only get heavier when and if it bears fruit. That's why I asked if the roots were still intact as nana trees may keep going as long as the trunk isn't completely snapped and nutrients can still flow to the tree canopy.
Trax I think it was by good luck rather than good management and also I was able to get to it straight away after the rain etc. was over. I just piled up the soil around it and added sturdy props and it kept it going. I was probably a little bit desperate as it had fruit on it......
Curbie I talk nicely to mine If he's a really good neighbour see if he wants a nana plant....going cheap!

DO NOT talk back to ME, stupid banana trees....! " My neighbor asked me to cut down my lilac tree. I did ~ then I got 3 more She does not deserve a banana tree. I have given her SO many plants and she loves to say," I threw that plant away.And then I threw the other plant away." SHE DOESn't PUT them in the GROUND! oh well. Someone (that's me) does not give her any plant. She only buys annuals and our yard is all perns. She thinks her marigold is a mum. Nope ~ Curbster

If I had a banana plant with fruit, I woulda def tried anything too! My dwarf Cavendish is still doing great but I've been operating on my Ice Cream banana pup to try and get it to start growing again. It's getting really frustrating.

Ok Curbie sounds like we'll forget that idea lol Trax what's the problem with your baby? My little one has stopped putting out leaves but then again it is winter here. I'll feed it mid August and see what happens.
