Here's a nice surprise!
I was looking over my plant and wondered why the base and stem was fattening up!
Had a look inside and found this!
Should be a couple of months before the flower stalk emerges!!!

cool, how long has it been growing Ron?
I've got one that I've had for about 2 yrs now....

Hey Laurie!
It's around 18 months since planting it in early 2011!
This is all new for me since all my other attempts never bloomed!
I'll post pics as it grows and develops!

Thats a beauty Ron! Most folks don't have the patience to see them through as they grow so slooooowly. Great job!

Thanks John!
It has been a lonnngg time to get it to this point!
Seems to be picking up speed now that the flower stalk has formed!
I wonder what color the flowers will be?

Ron I've only grown two types the rough leaf and the smooth leaf. Both had mauve/pink bracts but I saw some in Hawaii that had a deep purple/red colour. I think it may depend on the variety you're growing, it'll be interesting to see how it comes out. Pics please, lol!

It'll be wait and see!
This one is smooth with just a few spines along the tip of the leaves!
Here's a photo from this morning!
It's pushing up and starting to expand!!!

Wow it's coming along beautifully Ron! The way it's going you'll have a baby pineapple soon, thanks for the pics.

Thanks guys!
It really is amazing to watch!!
I've upped the watering frequency and added fertilizer to the water at half strngth, Using 15-30-15.... That should help it along!

It's blooming!
Flowers are not much to look at, and would be missed if just having a quick look! They are purple, tube shaped and small!

It is a fun experience!
Never got one to this flowering stage before!
If you try again pick a top that doesn't have spines, they are safer to handle.
I snip the tip spine off the ends of the leaves so I don't get stabbed!!
